Solarize Kingston – Launching!!!

Solarize Hudson Valley is launching May 1 with a 4.5 month pilot program centered in Kingston.  Households and small businesses will be able to access solar power at discounts from 10% to 20% below market rate, pushing the discounts deeper as more people participate.

On May 9 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m., Keegan Ales will host Kington’s Solarize Launch Celebration with music, refreshments, and informational presentations from the project team and selected partner installers Hudson Solar, Solar Generation and New York State Solar Farm. The Keegan Ales building on St. James Street will be used as a demonstration to assess solar potential.

Solarize Regional Timeline

If you live in Kingston, get ready NOW for our pilot with a full menu of May launch events and educational workshops.

If you live anywhere else in the six-county region we serve, your community can participate in the summer-fall regional wave of Ulster, Dutchess, Putnam, Orange, Rockland and Sullivan County Solarize campaigns.  We are issuing a Request for Proposals shortly to get a handle on the ideas, resources, and capabilities of potential partner communities.  We will pick 4 – 8 of the strongest ones, widely distributed around the region. These will be hubs for education and outreach – but of course, people in neighboring communities are eligible for the programs and group purchase discounts.

Now is the Time To Go Solar -

Solarize Hudson Valley

Solarize Hudson Valley is a regional campaign to make it easier and more affordable for households and small businesses to go solar.  Combining the power of community with a smart group purchasing strategy, Solarize helps everyone learn about solar technology, benefits, choices and financing options – together.  Working with highly qualified, pre-selected installation firms and community outreach volunteers, Solarize offers a progressive, tiered pricing structure that saves more money for every participant as more people step up.  It’s sound marketing – good community organizing – endlessly creative and fun.

In Connecticut and Massachusetts, Solarize campaigns have rolled out to hundreds of communities, led by partnerships between state agencies and nonprofits, reaching thousands of households and installing over 8 megawatts of solar power.  More exciting, communities that participate in Solarize campaigns stay educated and involved after the campaigns wrap up.

Solarize Hudson Valley is a three-year program of Sustainable Hudson Valley and Catskill Mountainkeeper, part of the Renewable New York movement to expand clean energy now.

We begin in May 2015 with a pilot in the City of Kingston, then scale up regionally with 4 – 8 partner communities from July 1 – Nov. 15.

This site will be fully operational by Tuesday, April 28, 2015.  Meanwhile, you can join our mailing list by emailing solarizeinfo@sustainhv.org or find us on Facebook.
